Massage is one of the most ancient healing arts in the world. You don’t have to have a specific physical problem to have a massage; it is not only beneficial for tired or tense muscles, but also for one’s general state of mind. A massage can be tailored to a person’s specific needs, taking into account their general health and well being, as well as any specific injuries or problems.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage (DTM) focuses on the realignment of the underlying layers of muscles and deep connective tissues. The massage technique is slower but with a firm pressure, concentrating on specific areas of tension or pain, and includes using soft fists, forearms and elbows.
This can help to relieve specific areas of muscular tension and discomfort. Amongst other holistic health benefits, it particularly improves mobility, increases range of motion and loosens tight muscle tissue. By improving blood circulation and increasing drainage to these areas, it can allow the release of toxins and bring nutrients to the affected tissues.

Massage & Acupuncture Combo
This combination is particularly good for sufferers of back or shoulder pain, or for individuals suffering with ingrained muscular issues anywhere in the body. It is also a very good combination to combat migraines or assist those suffering with anxiety or emotional turbulence. Within the treatment, moxa (dried mugwort) which is a Chinese herb may be used. The moxa is applied to the end of acupuncture needles or used in a stick and is burnt to send heat into the body to further relieve symptoms. It may also be necessary for the client to receive Chinese cupping which also directs localised heat to the affected region.

Sports and Remedial Massage
Sports and remedial massage is a deeper massage which aims to help athletes prepare and recover better from hard exercise or competition. It also incorporates more advanced techniques to help improve the recovery of common sports related injuries.
Pre-event: In the final build-up to a competition this requires good thorough massage which will identify and treat any areas of adverse tension.
Post- event: The main focus is recovery and massage should be given as soon as possible using gentle flowing techniques.
Many non-sports people also enjoy this deeper massage because it can help relieve minor aches and pains.

“I run regularly and strained my hamstring recently. Zena knows what she is doing and gave a very robust massage to my back, shoulders and legs. My shoulders were a bit achy at first as the massage was so deep, but it has worked to release long standing knots and I can feel much of the tightness has gone. My legs feel looser too. I will be back!”

Thai Yoga Massage
Thai yoga massage (TYM) is an ancient healing art from the Buddhist tradition. It is a clever combination of targeted acupressure; finding and dissolving knots and blockages, stimulating energy lines, toning the muscles and tendons and opening the joints with gentle Hatha yoga-like stretches. The aim of TYM is to restore balance to the body’s energy system and harness the process of self-healing and renewal.
Thai yoga massage is not just a physical therapy but has a spiritual healing dimension. By encouraging deep relaxation, it restores the mind and body to harmonious balance and peace.
Thai Yoga Massage encourages us to slow down and settle into our bodies. It can –
* improve flexibility
* dissolve aches and pain
* increase energy levels
* correct posture and alignment
* stimulate blood flow and circulation
* aid breathing and relaxation
* promote sleep
* restore well-being
What happens in a massage session?
Using thumbs, hands, feet, elbows, forearms and knees, the practitioner releases tension and dissolves blockages that lead to pain, dysfunction and disease. Thai Yoga Massage is done fully clothed, wearing loose garments. The massage takes place on a firm massage futon on the floor. Traditionally there is no use of oils.
TYM is like having a yoga class done to you. The massage is playful and fun as well as relaxing. It can be adapted and tailored to your individual body’s range and needs. It is safe and can be used on every kind of patient, regardless of age and flexibility.
